About AROTEC Diagnostics

AROTEC specialises in protein purification with a current focus on autoimmune disease antigens and antibodies. We produce high purity diagnostic reagents with exceptional lot-to-lot consistency. Our minimum specification for autoantigen purity is 90%, with 95-99% purity for most AROTEC antigens, achieved through meticulous chromatographic refinement and polishing.  AROTEC offers analytical (a few milligrams) to bulk (approaching grams) volumes of protein. Product lots can be reserved for established customers and held under storage in our 24/7 monitored ultra-low temperature freezers, free of charge for up to 2 years.

AROTEC products are exclusively of New Zealand origin.  Internationally, New Zealand is recognised as the world’s premier source of animal sera and animal protein products by the biotechnology industry. This is in part due to New Zealand’s geographical and biological isolation along with strict border security and agricultural restrictions, offering disease free status for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), Scrapie, foot-and-mouth disease and numerous other significant animal diseases (as recognised by International des Epizooites (OIE) and the USDA-APHIS).

All material sourced for production of human-derived native antigens are sourced from reputable blood donor centres offering full serological testing and traceability back to individual donors. 

AROTEC are protein purification experts with years of experience, with over 75% of our staff coming from a biochemistry or biotechnology background. It is this expertise, together with our practical approach which has allowed us to master complex purification processes and produce premium diagnostic reagents from analytical to bulk scale. Purification is achieved through meticulous “polishing” of the final product using high-resolution chromatographic techniques. This results in the virtual absence of contaminating substances thereby ensuring very low background.  Carrying out continuous in-process analysis using an array of analytical proteomic techniques, we can maintain tight process control resulting in less lot-to-lot variability and a final product that conforms to our product specifications batch after batch.  This is the reason why AROTEC has continued to grow and now supplies the majority of large and medium IVD companies around the world with our high-quality products.

AROTEC’s range of purified autoantigens display the following outstanding characteristics:

Purity – our autoantigens are highly pure (minimum specification >90% pure but often >95% pure). Assays developed using AROTEC autoantigens have very good signal-to-noise ratio reflected in high sensitivity and high specificity – less potential for cross reactivity.

Activity – our autoantigens are highly reactive with a broad dynamic range necessary for precision immunoassays.

Specificity - active immunoadsorption procedures where necessary followed by rigorous quality control ensures that our autoantigens are free of other autoantigens that might lead to false positive results.

Reproducibility – lot-to-lot consistency is AROTEC’s strength. New lots are rigorously tested and compared to AROTEC standards to ensure they conform to specifications.

Volume – we can produce autoantigen lots from analytical (a few milligrams) to bulk (approaching grams) amounts. Large lots eliminate the need for customers to continuously qualify new lots for their production.

Stability – our autoantigens exhibit outstanding stability characteristics and show no significant loss of activity over several years when stored appropriately.

Availability – except under exceptional circumstances we maintain high inventory levels of our complete product range thereby ensuring punctual delivery.  Autoantigen lots can be reserved for established customers for up to two years.
