Native - Human Neutrophils
Lysozyme catalyzes the hydrolysis of 1,4-beta-linkages between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine residues in peptidoglycan. A very basic enzyme, it is well known for its ability to hydrolize the cell wall of bacteria. Lysozyme consists of 129 amino acids with a molecular weight of 15kDa.
It is been found at elevated levels in cerebrospinal fluid in bacterial meningitis and also in colitis. Differential up-regulation of lysozyme in different cell types may offer diagnostic value in collagenous and lymphocytic colitis.
Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis
